Canon Vixia HF10     $1199    4 stars
A flash memory based camcorder. This is Canon’s first flash memory based camcorder. Reviews indicate that it delivers excellent high definition video quality and overall performance in a small package.

 

Canon HR10     $749     3.6 stars
DVD HD camcorder. Reviews show that this HD camcorder has very good video picture quality as well as clear audio. The image stabilizer is top notch. However, the DVD technology slows causes this Canon model to be slower than its non DVD competitors.

 

Canon HV30     $999     4.1 stars
Mini DV camcorder. This is only a minor upgrade from the HV20, but like that model, the Canon HV30 camcorder is an excellent choice. It will provide excellent video picture quality with a top notch image stabilization system.

 

JVC HD Everio GZ-HD3 $700    3 stars
HDD Camcorder. Average picture quality, but image stabilization issues hurt this model. The price is competitive though.
 

Panasonic HDC-SD9     $799     3.7 stars
A flash memory camcorder. Will it does have some positive features, other camcorders will provide a higher video quality.

 

Panasonic HDC-HS9     $799     3.7 stars
This is an HDD version of the camcorder immediately above, the HDC-SD9. The unit has the same functionality, pros, and cons. The only difference is images are stored on the hard drive rather than flash memory.

 

Panasonic HDC-SD100     $899     4.1 stars
A flash memory camcorder. The Panosonic HDC-SD100 has a very effective way for users to operate manual controls, good handling, and is an overall strong performer. The Panasonic HDC-SD100 is strong contender.

 

Samsung VP-HMX10 / SC-HMX10     $499     3.4 stars
A flash based camcorder. The biggest positive for this camcorder is its low price. There are some picture quality issues in this model, but if you are willing to tolerate a lower quality picture, the price of this unit is hard to match.

 

Sony HDR-CX7     $799     4.5 stars
A flash based camcorder. This HD camcorder was the top rated flash memory based camcorder by Consumer Reports. It is a very good HD camcorder that will provide users with top notch video and high quality audio.

 

Sony HDR-SR5     $699     4 stars
An HDD camcorder. This camcorder may find the best balance between prices and features. While not the best features, the price is very competitive. Consumer Reports rates this model as its best buy.

 

Sony HDR-SR12     $1299    4.5 stars
HDD camcorder. Usually the top rated model. This is one of the best HDD camcorders, providing an excellent picture quality. It also comes with a 120GB hard-drive for video storage. But it is more expensive.

 

Sony HDR-TG1   $899.99
